Writing

I was walking on the street today, and I began telling myself a story. Totally made up story I invented right then and there.
And suddenly it hit me....
... it wasn't the fact that I was crazy and inventing a really weird story and saying it out loud while I walked.

It hit me that I haven't written for a long time. Serious writing that is. I am not referring to schoolwork, which I have written plenty of, but of stories. I used to write stories, haikus, excerpts. I once intended to jump in the NaNoWriMo, which of course was a tooooooooooootal failure. For those of you who don't know NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month, and you are supposed to write a 50,000 word novel in just a month, which is just plain crazy but nonetheless fun.

So, I'm off to write the crazy story I have been pondering for hours, and I challenge you... to write a short story too, post it to your blog, and post it here afterwards...

I am thinking a secret prize for the best story....

Deadline: October 15
UPDATE: I had written Deadline: october 1 as a typo!!! You have two weeks...

Knitted Street

So I was in one of my beautiful walks around the city, and I came around this:

It's sort of a post cozy if I may name it. I had already seen something like this on the internet, but never in person here in Mexico City. I like how craft has infiltrated even the tough street scene.

I don't know if it is meant as a statement or if it was put there just for fun, but it is beautiful. It does give a little touch of life to that drab intersection. I doubt it will be removed, and that is enough for me...

Six Secrets...and blogosphere watch...

The beloved agoodwitchtoo tagged me over at her Copper Cauldron blog to tell 6 secrets about myself...
However, I want to do a blogosphere review...

So here I go... I will be illustrating the secrets with photos of the blogs I'm tagging to do their own six secrets...

Sandra from smosch
I am secretly very very mad that the vintage stuff I put up on my etsy shop sells better than the handmade stuff...

Laure from La Baleine à Plumes
I want to live on my own. I have the whole decoration plan.

Erin from Design for Mankind
I am also a pack rat, but I try to contain myself...

Camilla Engman
My friends irritate me.

Sharla from BeadedTail
I am afraid of rats...

Heather from HPalleikoDesigns
...but I loooooooooooove spiders!!!

Joanne from Footnotes
mmmmmmmmmm.... I don't have an extra secret but I do have an extra blogger to tag... and remember that each of you must tag six others...

I'm really excited about my film festival job. Tomorrow I'm gonna go and have an introduction, and I'll start on Monday.

On other news, the Etsy Mexico Team is starting to work. We are planning a treasure hunt for Day of the Dead, which is a traditional Mexican holiday near Halloween. I'll post more details when I have them.

Pure Beauty

I have some good news... I got a new JOB!!!! It's a part time one, but I couldn't hope for more, really. A friend's mom is working at the Jewish Film Festival and she needed an assistant so she offered me the job. It's real cool. It's just for one month, but I think it's gonna be a BALL... like the treasury below, it's gonna be pure beauty.

Here's a treasury I made over at Etsy... It expires tomorrow, so go check it out if you haven't done it already...

Hello Autumn!!!

So autumn is finally, here. I hear this makes other people sad, but not me. Here in Mexico City there are no clearly defined seasons... Yesterday was the coldest day ever, but today was pretty sunny: I went out with a sleeveless tee...
In summery, our weather here is just crazy.

However, autumn does come
and the tree leaves begin to darken and fall,
and I enjoy walking over them
because they sound like fun.

So that's my little fall poem... Hope you enjoy...

Featuring: Closet Addiction

I recently bought optical lenses from ClosetAddiction, and I HAD to feature her here. She sells supplies, but albeit real beautiful and vintage ones.

She has the greatest customer service: Two of my optical lenses arrived broken. Apparently the mail isn't really careful with our packages. I mentioned it to Elizabeth (that's her real name) for her future packing, and she insisted on sending me a replacement. I told her it wasn't really necessary, and I never heard from her again UNTIL the replacement lenses arrived in perfect condition this week.

She runs a second shop called KeysAndMemories, where she puts to use some of her nice supplies for jewelry...

So if you need supplies, check her out. I know I will be...

Peachy ducklings in a brick and mortar store...

I have some interesting things to tell you today. First of all, I finally got to finish some brooches I had started working on. They are not up in the store yet, but they will be soon. I also went to a thrift store yesterday and found the most beautiful eyeglasses ever. They are peachy!!! Those will go in the store soon too...

Yesterday also I had lunch with a friend and she had a proposition that I am seriously thinking. She wants us to have a brick and mortar store. I am really excited about it, but we have a loooooooooooooooot to think. We've seen a tiny little place, but nothing is settled yet.

So, after the exciting prospects I'm leaving you with a beautiful song with a trippy video. The original song is a kiddie song from Germany. I loved it when I was a little girl, and recently I found this cool remake by Lemon Jelly. It is called 'Nice Weather for Ducks'. Hope you like...

Beautiful music...

I found some nice music over at youtube...
I like when music makes me happy and these do, especially the first one.
I first found this youtube channel while looking for a song that was on Gossip Girl, and now it has become a source of cool music every week...

So, I hope you enjoy!!!

The Go-Getter, my approach to an internet diet...

During this weekend of internet withdrawal I discovered something. I AM AN INTERNET ADDICT. If I saw an computer I would immediately ask someone if I could just check my email 'real quick'... my excuse was that if I got an etsy order, I would be able to do everything that was required. YEAH RIGHT!!! Of course, I didn't get any orders.
I got myself full of ideas for my next blog posts, which was kind of cool. I saw some movies including The 'Go-Getter', both Bridget Jones movies, 'Mamma Mia!' and a Mexican movie called 'Arrancame la Vida'. All five are reeeeaaal good and I recommend them extensively. I partied a bit and ate real good Mexican food; it was, after all, Mexican Independence Day.

I did use the computer, though. I had to do some homework and I checked my email but besides that it was pretty good. I missed all those EtsyBloggers over at the Etsy forums...

Good long weekend...

Because of national celebrations (Mexican Independence Day), I am getting a long weekend. I know; it's already Sunday, but I don't have to go back to school until Wednesday at 9:30.

I'm in vacation mood, and I haven't posted a lot, but I don't intend to do so either.
I am taking advice from fellow EtsyBlogger LaBaleineaPlumes and I'm gonna start an internet diet. I'm gonna start with total withdrawal, so I can make the most out of my long weekend and so I can come back revitalized on Wednesday.

I've got some things to do like ACTUALLY crafting instead of just lurking around etsy. I'm also in the move... I need to decorate and arrange all my stuff in my new room. Same house, just a different room...

So, farewell my little vikings...
See you Wednesday...

Oh, gentrification, how I hate you...

We are all aware of gentrification. That's when a nice neighborhood starts being cool and all the little shops have to move out because rent gets higher, and then starbucks and convinience stores and "cool" stores start popping up everywhere.

There is a neighborhood here in Mexico City that despite being fashionable had somehow retained its charm, but this week, as I was walking over there, I saw a sign in a bookstore that said they were closing down. I was appalled...
This bookstore has been there for years. It has got any book you'd ever want, and yet it is going to close down. The next minute, there will be a bar, a clothing store, a convinience store or a Starbucks to replace it.
I went in and bought a book. It was kind of a solidarity act, though. It somehow seemed so WRONG to me that it was closing down. I wanted to stop it. I asked the man if they were really going to close and he just jokingly said: Yes, but don't you wanna buy the bookstore??

It really tears my heart to see little businesses get killed, but seeing THAT bookstore closed really killed me.

Yellow,
It makes me feel happy on rainy afternoons like today.
It makes my day peppier...
While I listen to Icelandic music...

For more of my yellows...

Featured EtsyBlogger: JoeyandAleethea

I don't know how team leaders do all they have to. I barely make time to participate in my teams, and they are organizing everything AND running their shops AND doing all those other things that get in the way of etsy (commonly known as a life).

JoeyandAleethea is the leader of EtsyBloggers, and she does this real good work at it if I may say so. Her etsy shop is full of baby stuff, but still I love some of those...

Space monster blanket

The most amazing baby bib in the universe. Too bad all my nieces stopped using bibs a while ago...

J&A, really, why don't you make a store with grown-up sizes??

Political or not??

There are some things in this world that lie in the sphere of politics but don't at the same time. I just found two things like this in just ten minutes, and they both happen to be videos.

The first I found it over at dear ada. It's a video about this cool "movement" (if I may say so) to empower girls in developing countries. It's called the girl effect. This feminist act of empowerment is a way to better the world as the video claims. Isn't that a political cause??

The second is an amazing song by a Denver based hip-hop band called Flobots. It's called Handlebars. You should check the lyrics out. Here's a statement by a band member:

The song is about the idea that we have so much incredible potential as human beings to be destructive or to be creative.

So what do you say??? Political or not??

Blogosphere review...

So many cool things here on the internet....

I've profesed my love for Morran before. That's Camilla Engman's doggie. Now she's over at Design for Mankind's dailies.

Over at a print a day

Bruno Taylor installed swings in bus stops in the beautiful city of London. Doesn't he want to come over here??

Fellow blogger Joanne Rendell just had her first book published... It's called The Proffessors' Wives' Club... It sounds real good. I can't wait to buy it...

Riitta Ikonen is a real cool artist. I found her over at we make money not art, but her site has a lot of pictures of her work, so it's worth checking it out.

Indian Dalits

Dalits is the name the Indian untouchables use for themselves. The caste system in India is something that has always intrigued me. Just found an article in the New York Times that argues that economic liberalization is good for the untouchables since it gives them more opportunities. There's a big debate over there in the subcontinent. Great article... incredible pictures.
