Dalits is the name the Indian untouchables use for themselves. The caste system in India is something that has always intrigued me. Just found an article in the New York Times that argues that economic liberalization is good for the untouchables since it gives them more opportunities. There's a big debate over there in the subcontinent. Great article... incredible pictures.

It is horrifying how we treat people based on something that they cannot control--their birth.
yes, I've heard about the untouchables before. It's a ugly way to look at an individual - I guess it's a religious thing? Religion makes people act pretty strange.
