Trip to the woods...

I am a big city dweller. I love the street, the asphalt, the buildings. I hate traffic, though. Despite all of my love for the city, it is always nice to go out a bit or at least get o see some green.
So, today I went on a little excursion with a friend. We went to the woods that are so near from his house and my school. It was oh so cold, but oh so beautiful, too.

I didn't take any pictures, but these are from a previous excursion on my birthday...

Featured EtsyBlogger: BFBeads

This month's featured EtsyBlogger is BFBeads. That stands for Baby Friendly Beads, as in don't eat my necklace, don't pull my hair friendly. They aren't meant to be worn by babies though...

I would certainly play with these necklaces and bracelets if I were a baby, they are all so colorful.

Visit BF's shop here.

Iceland

I have always wanted to visit Iceland. To me, it is a magical place with beautiful landscapes, good music and a little bit of cold. It was because of the Icelandic singers that I first thought of going there. If the music was so magical, how much more magical could the country be? Björk, Sigür Rós, Mum... I love them all.

Then I watched Heima, a documentary about Sigur Ros, and I fell in love right then and there. See it if you haven't, or at least watch the trailer. It's below. Now I want to go more than ever. It's more like an urge. I am determined to go...

Wanna pay for my trip?? Hehehehe..

The pictures are by Bob O'Connor. I'm putting some up here, but you have to go over to his site to see the rest. Really...

Who is it? Who is it??

I want to thank those of you who entered the writing challenge!!!

This was my first attempt at hosting a giveaway, and although there wasn't as much response as I had wished for it was real cool to read your stories...

Thanks again...

In response to barker bell, I just realize I never wrote the story that started the challenge. I know it seems an excuse but it really isn't. I will try to write something and post it here soon though.

However I am ready to announce the winner and she is..... DRUMROLL....

She wins one of my bottlecap brooches. This one in particular...

If you want to read her story Albert and the Single Shoe go to her blog.

50 illusions...

First of all, I wanna say this is my 50th post. I had never had a blog last so long, and I had never had a blog that people actually read, so this makes me quite happy...

Second, again I'm apologizing for being away all the time... the festival is coming and I'm SWAMPED with work.

Third, I am so excited about this concert I went to on Saturday. I got to see some bands I really love like the Flaming Lips and Nine Inch Nails and some others too... The Flaming Lips were amazing and completely magical. I didn't take any pictures, but the above is a pic of the vocalist at Bonaroo. If you have never heard them, do go listen to them... They have their own street named after them in Oklahoma...

Fourth, I will soon be having good news about my local team Etsy Mexico. We are organizing our first activity and we are getting ready to start a blog, so I'll keep you posted.

So anyways, thanks for hanging here...

Spooky...

I have nothing spooky to tell. Mostly because I am too easily scared. I can't see horror movies, except the Rocky Horror Picture Show, but that's not really horror that's just creepy.

So I'm showing you some of my brooches. I have a whole edition. It wasn't meant to be Halloween-y or for the Day of the Dead. They intend to be anatomical details, but it coincided with the funnest holidays on earth, so what the hell!!! I'm marketing them as such...

This one is actually for sale at my etsy shop

-----------------

Oh, and while we are at it...

My team Etsy Mexico is having a Day of the Dead treasure hunt. I will update this with details later on, but you cna have a choice of different prizes from different stores...
It's gonna be swell...

Sketchbook

I've been oh so busy at work. Coordinating the film festival is hard, but it is really fun and at last I see my work building up to something.

Today I saw one of the movies that will be showing on the festival, and I loved it. It's called 3:19, and it's all about coincidences.

But I'm really here to post some pics.. I scanned some of my work: illustration, collage and whatnot that I made the first part of the year on my sketchbook. I didn't upload it all, but just the ones I like best. I will be uploading more stuff, and I'll send it your way...

To see it up close and personal, go to my flickr.

I'll try to get back here and post some cool stuff during the week, but I can't promise...

Friends don't let friends...

I just found the funnest (I know there's no such word... quit it...) thing on Gmail EVER....

Apparently, you can enable a feature so you don't e-mail people when drunk or in other inconvenient states and later regret it. You have to solve some simple math problems, so you can prove to Gmail that you aren't drunk...

Here's the whole story

Photoholics

I went out of my house today. I went downtown to the Post Office and before heading back home I went to a museum. The exhibition was really good and I enjoyed it quite a lot. However, the thing that attracted my attention was not the stuff on he walls but the people's reactions to it.

Everyone was taking pictures!!

I sometimes do that too, but I had never really thought about it until today. I think it is a nice gesture, to try and have a keepsake of the things you are enjoying. The goal is to get an image to be able to see it at your pleasure and to share it with others. That's the whole point of sites like flickr...

The visual culture we live in demands images. We see it a lot in the blogosphere...
Everything is easier now with even cell phones that take better pictures than a digital camera. This easiness of taking pictures, I think, enriches the art of photography. Although, some would say that simple picture taking is not art, but I think it might be.

My whole concern over this is that while photography is the bestest invention in the last 200 years, its combination with mass media and technology has made it so mainstream and such a routine that we don't even appreciate it anymore.

We don't appreciate the fact that we can capture an image and have it with us forever. And neither do we appreciate the moment we are living because we are too concerned on having a memory of it.

TGIF

I am not one to blog about my personal life. I rarely do because:
a) I don't feel comfortable doing so
b) I don't really think anyone cares
c) My life's not really that interesting

But today, I'm going to blog about yesterday, Friday, October 3th, because it was a really great day. So here...

First of all, I woke up early (if you can call 8 am early) and the view from my window was beautifully lit. Smiles. I went to work where, even though the boss is very demanding, I got to do so many cool things. I had to book flights for guests who are coming from the US, Australia, and probably France. I had to confirm that local guests are coming to the conferences and that they receive the movie they are reviewing. I had to retrieve a package that was in UPS limbo. I even stayed at the office extra time because I didn't really care I was working a bit more.

While I was at work I received an etsy order, which I acknowledged as soon as I got it. That made me smile even more. I then went to meet my friends. There was an awful lot of traffic but I had my book so I read and read and read. Before I met my friends, I went to a store where I have some bottlecap brooches on consignment and, as some had sold, I got paid.

We bought tickets for a concert/party. I was having second thoughts about going to the event though because the entrance was quite pricey, but I was so happy I had sold so much stuff in one day that I decided I deserved it. Plus, all I earned yesterday was more than the ticket price, so I could afford it.

Finally, we went to the party which was on an amusement park. It was a real fun gig where I knew a llooooooooot of people, so I felt really popular, hehehe. Oh, and I met a boy I like, so that was a fun wrap-up to the day. I smiled all the way back home.

So that was my fun day!!! Oh, I'm right now working on some new concept: Collage bottlecap brooches. I had already made one before and it's over at my store. It is very lonely though, no views... But I hope the next ones I make do better.
